New Chapter, Same Passion:  Joining Epic Experience as Director of Programs and Alumni Engagement

As Mama Lou started retirement (We love you!) and is enjoying her freedom with Co-pilot, I’m honored to share that I’ve officially started a new chapter professionally as the Director of Programs and Alumni Engagement with Epic Experience.

When I attended camp in March 2023, the programming at Epic Experience saved me from going into a dark place with my mental health. Before that, I was always grateful but I still couldn’t smile. Epic Experience made me smile again! This role aligns with my newfound passion to build connections in order to create the experience I received. There is life after cancer, and it’s rewarding in its own ways.

In this position, I will be overseeing all the Epic Experience programs:

  • Adventure Camps
  • Regional Survivorship Days
  • Thrive VR
  • Campfires of Hope Podcast
  • Thriving Together

We will honor survivors and caregivers alike so they feel supported and empowered after a cancer diagnosis.

The reason I changed careers is because of the family aspect of Epic Experience. I’ve witnessed strangers come together with love and support. When I see survivors smile, it brings joy into my journey. The campfire chats are real, filled with emotion and laughter. It is my mission to provide those same opportunities for others battling this disease.

To the Epic community—past, present, and future—I can’t wait to connect with you and learn your story. Without you, this organization would not thrive. As we grow, I will be asking for your assistance. We need to brainstorm on how we can spread the Epic Experience name in your area through fundraising efforts or survivorship regional days.

Here’s to new beginnings for myself and a community that truly lives beyond cancer.

Blessings,

Denny “Stretch” Williams
